In celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, I invite students from across Southwestern Connecticut to participate in my office’s America 250 Essay Contest! Students from elementary, middle, and high schools located in Connecticut’s Fourth Congressional District may participate in the competition by submitting a written response to the following questions:

What do you value about our American democracy, and what are your hopes for its future? How will you play a role as an active participant in the future of our democracy?

Word Limits:
Elementary School (Grades K-5): Between 75-150 words.
Middle School (Grades 6-8): Between 200 – 300 words.
High School (Grades 9-12): Between 500 – 600 words.

Pictures or drawings may accompany submissions, but are optional. Submissions must include a parent/guardian’s name, mailing address, phone number, email, and the student’s name, grade, and school.

All submissions must be received by 5pm on Monday, June 22nd. Please email submissions as PDFs to Shindler.Auguste@mail.house.gov.

One winner will be chosen from each category. The winners and their schools will be notified by June 30th. Winners will have their essay displayed in the Office of Congressman Himes, on our social media, and will receive a Congressional Certificate.
