I know that this is a scary moment for many in our community as masked ICE agents launch widespread raids across the United States. I do not condone anyone entering this country illegally and have long supported reforms to improve our immigration system. However, Donald Trump’s mass deportation effort is as cruel as it is ineffective. His Administration is targeting schools and churches, pulling people, including legal residents, off the street, and throwing them into inhumane detention centers without recourse.
Please know that I will continue fighting to uphold the Constitution and protect the civil liberties of every resident of this country. Let me also make something clear: your legal status in this country does not negate your right to the due process. The best thing that you can do for yourself and your neighbors is to know your rights. I encourage you to take the time to review the information below and share it with your family and friends.

- You have the right to remain silent and contact an attorney.
- You have the right to due process and to have your case heard before a judge.
WHEN INTERACTING WITH IMMIGRATION AND CUSTOMS ENFORCEMENT (ICE):
- You do not need to volunteer ANY information.
- You do not need to provide your immigration status or place of birth.
- Do not show or use any false or fraudulent documentation, including a fake name.
- You do not have any obligation to sign any document without speaking to an attorney.
- Before opening the door of your home or place of work to ICE, you have the right to ask to see a warrant.
