Washington, D.C. – Today, Ranking Member of the House Intelligence Committee Jim Himes (CT-04) released the following statement regarding his vote against the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2027:
“The National Defense Authorization Act should support our servicemembers and protect our national security interests. But my Republican colleagues are making that impossible by including over one trillion dollars in spending for Pete Hegseth’s Pentagon and other programs. They’ve also added the SAVE America Act which creates additional barriers to vote and allows the sharing of sensitive voter data with the Department of Homeland Security.
“I will not support this blank check to further an unnecessary and illegal war that puts Americans in harm’s way, or the regressive culture war amendments that have been tacked on to the bill. If Republicans were actually serious about our national security, they would join us in a bipartisan collaboration to advance a National Defense Authorization Act that sets aside political gamesmanship and focuses on making Americans, including our men and women in uniform, safer.”
