Medicare is the government-funded health insurance program for individuals 65 or older. Certain individuals under age 65 who have disabilities or specific conditions may also qualify for Medicare coverage. There are four separate programs that make up Medicare benefits: Medicare Part A (hospital insurance), Part B (supplementary Medical Insurance), Part C (Medicare Advantage Plans), and Part D (prescription drug coverage).
The Social Security Administration handles enrollment in Medicare and Medicare premiums. If you are reaching Medicare age (64 and 8 months) please contact your local Social Security office to make sure you will not be subject to a late enrollment penalty fee if you choose not to enroll at this time.
