Reproductive Freedom:

I strongly support reproductive freedom and have always stood against attacks on reproductive rights. Unfortunately, in the wake of Dobbs v. Jackson, states across the country are passing restrictive reproductive policies. These relentless attacks are unacceptable and undermine the will of an overwhelming majority of Americans who support access to reproductive care.

I have been a longtime supporter of the Women’s Health Protection Act, which would prohibit medically unnecessary requirements or restrictions on abortion services, enshrining protection to abortion access into federal law. At heart, I believe that every woman must be empowered to make her own decisions regarding her reproductive health without government intrusion and deserves access to the best medical care available.

Multiple Planned Parenthood state affiliates have received letters from the Trump Administration accusing them of violating federal civil rights laws and executive orders targeting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. At the same time, states across the country continue pursuing legal efforts to restrict access to medication abortion and reproductive health care services. While I am proud that Connecticut has continued to protect these rights and safeguards for our residents, the federal government must defend access to comprehensive reproductive health care and ensure that every individual can make their own medical decisions free from political interference.

The right to bodily autonomy should protect a woman’s ability to control her own reproductive health: this includes providing a support system for women at all stages. I have and will continue to support efforts to reduce unplanned pregnancies by expanding access to family planning services and comprehensive sex education.
