For decades, Social Security and Medicare have provided vital assistance to Seniors to help cover food, housing, health care, and retirement costs, among other services.

America’s seniors have spent their working lives paying into this system and deserve to receive the full benefits they were promised.

Social Security

Social Security has kept older Americans out of poverty and provided assistance for all senior citizens. In Connecticut, more than 721,000 people rely on Social Security—including 122,537 beneficiaries in our district. Everyone who pays into Social Security deserves to receive their full, fair share. That is why Congress has the responsibility to defend this critical support. Ensuring the long-term stability of Social Security remains one of my highest priorities.

That’s why I have cosponsored the Social Security 2100 Act, which would expand benefits across the board, update cost-of-living adjustments to more accurately reflect the costs seniors face, ensure everyone can retire without falling into poverty, and ensure this bedrock program remains solvent through the end of this century.

Unfortunately we have seen unprecedented attacks to our Social Security system and beneficiaries. In response, I cosponsored H.R. 1101, the Taxpayer Data Protection Act, to strengthen safeguards against unauthorized access to federal payment systems—including Social Security, Medicare, and federal worker paychecks. This bill also establishes penalties for violations, mandates transparency, and ensures that Congress and the public are notified of any breaches that would compromise our national security.

Medicare

Medicare is a lifeline for seniors and families across Connecticut, providing access to affordable, dependable health care when it matters most. More than 700,000 Connecticut residents count on Medicare for coverage that helps them see their doctors, fill prescriptions, and receive critical medical care without facing overwhelming costs. As health care expenses continue to rise, protecting and improving Medicare is essential to ensuring older Americans can age with dignity and security.
