WASHINGTON, DC—Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) released the following statement in response to the Senate vote today to end debate and move forward with consideration of legislation to reduce payroll taxes, extend unemployment insurance, and maintain current tax rates.

“I applaud the Senate for moving forward with legislation to maintain reduced tax rates and extend unemployment benefits, and I urge House leadership to act quickly on this job-creating bill when the Senate completes its work. Passage of this legislation is essential. We can’t let laid-off workers and struggling families take home less in their paychecks just as winter heating bills and holiday expenses hit. While this bill contains elements I do not like, it will keep food on the tables of those who are struggling and give families and businesses the economic certainty they need to keep the economy moving forward.”
