WASHINGTON, DC – The Small Business Investor Alliance (SBIA) today honored U.S. Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) for his hard work and dedication to American small businesses and the investors who support them.
“SBIA is pleased to present the 2013 SBIA Champion of Small Business Investing Award to Congressman Himes,” said Brett Palmer, President of SBIA, the premier organization of lower middle market private equity funds and investors. “Congressman Himes has worked tirelessly on behalf of small business investors by supporting public policies to increase capital flowing to small businesses so that they can grow and hire.”
“Our team at Brookside Mezzanine Partners would like to congratulate Congressman Himes for winning SBIA’s Champion of Small Business Investing award,” said David Buttolph, Managing Director and Founder of Brookside Mezzanine Partners, a small business investment fund based in Stamford, Connecticut. “We have had numerous meetings with Congressman Himes and he has worked hard to improve access to capital for small businesses. This award recognizes his ongoing commitment to small business investors.”
“As we continue working to rebuild the economy and fix our nation's dangerous jobs crisis, we know small businesses will lead the way,” said Himes. “I was proud to partner with many of my colleagues last year to pass legislation to improve access to capital for small business, and I will continue looking for innovative ways to ensure small businesses have access to the resources they need to grow and create jobs.”
The award was presented to Himes during SBIA’s third annual DC Fly-In event, where SBIA members from across the nation come to Washington to meet with policymakers. “This year our members will be speaking to policymakers about promoting a stable tax structure that encourages investment, strengthening the Small Business Investment Company (SBIC) program, and making common sense reforms to many financial regulations,” said Brett Palmer.
