WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4), a member of the House Financial Services Committee, today praised Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) Director Richard Cordray for the CFPB’s success in recouping almost $4 billion for more than 12.5 million wronged consumers since the bureau’s creation. "This is about check cashers, pawnshops, shadowy lending operations that cluster around our military bases. This is about products that are designed to strip senior citizens of the equity that they have in their homes," Himes said. “This is about protecting individual Americans and returning ill-gotten gains to them. I don't understand why there is this consistent drumbeat of attack on the CFPB when that is your mission."
Himes' remarks came during the full committee's hearing to discuss the CFPB's semi-annual report.
