WASHINGTON, DC—Today, Congressman Jim Himes (CT-04) released the following statement on the recently revealed Republican plan to replace the Affordable Care Act:
“Seven years in the making, the House Majority’s plan to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act falls far short of both the promise made to the American people for universal access to affordable care and President Trump’s own promise to increase healthcare coverage. The bill would give fewer people access to health care coverage, and make that coverage more expensive for those who need it most.
“The plan would be harmful to poorer Americans because of reduced Medicaid access and a replacement of subsidies with age-based tax credits, while benefiting wealthy Americans through new tax incentives. The Majority needs to come forward with real plans to improve the ACA that will address rising costs and help middle class families. This is certainly not that plan, but an ideological bill that will leave millions of Americans twisting in the wind, and I cannot support it.”
