WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) released the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s unanimous ruling that law enforcement must get a warrant before searching a suspect’s mobile phone or other personal electronic device.
“The Supreme Court was absolutely right to rule that the government needs to get a search warrant before having unlimited access to a suspect's cell phone. The Court's decision correctly recognizes that today's cell phones contain vast troves of sensitive, personal information that needs to be protected from unrestricted government encroachment. This is a major victory for the privacy and civil liberties of all Americans.”
