NEW CANAAN, CT—Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) visited local small businesses in New Canaan today as he continued his 17 Towns in 17 Days tour of Connecticut's Fourth District. During his walking tour, Himes went to New Canaan Olive Oil, a specialty olive oil and vinegar tasting shop that opened last year on Elm St.; Life Aquatic, a saltwater fish and aquarium store on South Ave.; New Canaan Music on Elm St., and The Candy Scoop, a new shop on Elm St. opened by two sisters who are lifelong New Canaan residents.

“These small businesses are part of the backbone of our region’s economy and the heart and soul of New Canaan's unique, beautiful community,” Himes said. “It is absolutely essential for me to hear from local businesses about their concerns and needs. Small businesses are key drivers of job creation, and these face-to-face meetings with our local entrepreneurs are critical to helping me understand how I can best advocate on their behalf in Congress.”

Himes has conducted small business tours and meetings throughout Southwest Connecticut to gather input about the Fourth District's business climate. In Congress, Himes has helped pass legislation to increase the flow of capital to small businesses so that they can grow and hire.

Himes has also worked to ensure small businesses have the resources they need to take advantage of growth opportunities. He has hosted numerous information sessions and workshops to connect small businesses with the information they need to apply for government contracts, export their products, or apply for federal loans.
