WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Jim Himes (CT-04), representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Small Business Administration, and Norwalk Fire Chief Denis McCarthy, the leader of the Fairfield County Coastal Fire Chiefs Association, held a press conference today reminding local residents of the upcoming deadline to apply for assistance with FEMA for any uninsured damages caused by Tropical Storm Irene. Eligible residents have until Nov. 3 to apply for aid.
“Irene wreaked havoc on homes and businesses throughout Fairfield County, but help is available,” said Himes. “I urge anyone who thinks they may be eligible to apply for federal disaster assistance through FEMA and the SBA by Thursday.”
Disaster assistance from FEMA and the Small Business Administration was made available to Connecticut residents and businesses following Tropical Storm Irene, which slammed the Northeast in late August and left many with damaged property. More information on the kinds of federal assistance available and how to apply can be found on Himes’ website at http://www.himes.house.gov/tropical-storm-irene.
In addition, Himes recently recorded a Public Service Announcement, which is now airing on local television and radio stations, reminding residents about the Nov. 3 deadline. The PSA is available in both English and Spanish. Broadcast-quality copies are available upon request.
Anyone who needs help applying for assistance is encouraged to contact the Himes’ office at (866) 453-0028.
