Washington, DC — Today, Congressman Jim Himes (CT-04) issued the following statement regarding the release of 50 hostages being held by Hamas and the humanitarian pause in Gaza:

“I am deeply relieved by the news of a deal to free these hostages, and the accompanying pause of violence in the region. The civilian loss since the horrific attack on October 7th has been devastating. I am hopeful that this agreement represents a meaningful first step towards an improved humanitarian situation in Gaza even as Israel defends itself from a continued threat of Hamas terrorism.”
