RIDGEFIELD, CT—Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) joined students at Veterans Park Elementary School in Ridgefield this morning to participate in his sixth annual “Valentines for Vets” program. The program collects valentines made by Fourth District children to deliver to veterans at the local VA hospital, Homes for the Brave in Bridgeport and other service organizations. Last year, over 60 schools participated by making valentines for distribution.
“I've been very inspired by the impact of this program over the years. It's a terrific opportunity for kids to learn about the tremendous sacrifice our men and women in uniform make while showing our veterans that they are always in our thoughts. I hope more students can join me to make this year’s drive even bigger,” Himes said.
Anyone who would like to participate in this year’s “Valentines for Vets” program should contact Michael Dunn or Eunice Ramirez in Himes’ Bridgeport district office at (203) 333-6600. Valentines can be mailed to or dropped off at the Bridgeport office by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10, 2015.
