BRIDGEPORT, CT—Leading up to the 75th anniversary of Social Security, Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) is visiting senior centers throughout the 4th District. In a speech on the House floor, Himes recently called attention to the importance of protecting Social Security from privatization.

“We should all plan and prepare for our retirement, with a diverse portfolio of savings and investments, but Social Security is a safety net,” said Himes. “Imagine if Social Security had fallen victim to the same market crash that wiped out so many retirement accounts. We cannot ever leave Social Security vulnerable to the fluctuations of the market.”

Today, Himes will visit the Darien Senior Center. Earlier this week he met with seniors at the North End Bethany Senior Center, and later this week he will join the brown bag lunch at the Seymour Hollander Apartments in Bridgeport.  The Congressman has plans to attend senior centers in Ridgefield, Redding, Oxford, Black Rock, Weston, Bridgeport, and a number of other communities throughout the district later in the month. Those visits will be announced once confirmed.
