(Hartford, CT) – Today, the Connecticut Delegation issued the following statement after the Small Business Administration awarded the University of Connecticut’s Small Business Development Center (CTSBDC) a $1.3 million grant to help small businesses recover from the economic devastation of Hurricane Sandy. CTSBDC – in collaboration with seven other small business development organizations – will use the funds to provide small businesses in impacted areas such as Fairfield, Hartford, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London, Tolland, and Windham with business continuity counseling and training services.
“Nearly 10 months after Hurricane Sandy struck Connecticut, families, small businesses, and communities are still struggling with the economic impact of the storm. This grant will help businesses who were forced to shutter or scale back operations return to business as usual and better prepare for the next superstorm – severe weather events that are increasingly becoming the new normal. We will continue to work with the Small Business Administration and other government agencies to ensure that Connecticut gets its fair share of Sandy relief funds.”
