WASHINGTON, DC—Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) today applauded final passage of the Jumpstart Our Business Start-ups Act (JOBS Act), which he helped write. President Obama suggested the legislation as part of his effort to promote entrepreneurship and pushed for its passage in his State of the Union address earlier this year. He is expected to quickly sign the bill into law.

“This bipartisan effort will improve the business climate and, in turn, create jobs,” Himes said. “This new law will put more decisions in the hands of business owners so they can continue to grow while easing into the responsibilities associated with increasing the number of people who have invested in the company.”

The JOBS Act will make it easier for growing businesses to raise capital, both publicly and privately, which will help them expand and create jobs. At the crux of the bill are a number of provisions Himes helped pass through the Financial Services Committee, including H.R. 3606, H.R. 2167, and Himes’ own bill, H.R. 1965, which passed the full House independently in November.
