WASHINGTON, DC - Following the terrorist attacks at two mosques in Central Christchurch, New Zealand Congressman Jim Himes (CT-04) released the following statement during a vigil at the Bridgeport Islamic Center:

"I am heartbroken by the tragedy in Christchurch. This act was driven by hate and intolerance and ignorance. ”

“At times like this I always feel like words are inadequate. But I can say this: today, we must remember that hatred, no matter the origin, must be confronted by our civic and political leaders. We are here to support our neighbors. We are here to say bigotry and hate have no place in our communities. We support our Muslim community. We will do all we can to protect them. We stand with our brothers and our sisters.”
