WESTPORT, CT – Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) issued the following statement today regarding the more than $1 million in new National Endowment for the Arts grants that will be awarded to organizations in Connecticut. The 15 competitively-awarded grants include one for $30,000 for the Westport Country Playhouse.
“We are proud of our strong artistic and cultural history in Connecticut. This grant support will help continue that tradition in our communities and honor the work of one of America’s great playwrights, Arthur Miller, who lived much of his life in nearby Roxbury,” Himes said. “I applaud the Westport Country Playhouse on receiving this competitively-awarded funding and will continue to be an advocate for investments in the arts, which attract significant private and philanthropic dollars to our cities and towns.”
The Westport Country Playhouse will receive $30,000 to support a community program centered on former Connecticut resident Arthur Miller’s life and work and a production of his play Broken Glass. Broken Glass will be directed by the Playhouse’s Artistic Director Mark Lamos, a close collaborator of Miller’s during his lifetime.
