WASHINGTON, DC—Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) released the following statement after Governor Dan Malloy's announcement that the state will invest $10 million to upgrade the power supply for Metro-North Railroad’s New Haven Line in order to prevent future power failures:
"After several severe power outages along the New Haven line over the past year, I am pleased that Governor Malloy has announced this investment to upgrade the power supply feeding Metro-North. Many of my constituents rely on Metro-North to get to and from work, so this upgrade will help improve reliability, as well as commuter safety. This is a good start, but the fact is that after years of delays, derailments, outages, and, perhaps most frustratingly, a severe and consistent lack of communication on the part of Metro-North, there is still a lot we must do to make Metro-North safer, more reliable, and more accountable. I look forward to seeing this upgrade implemented and will continue working with the Governor and Metro-North to identify further fixes to ensure Metro-North is working for the people."
