WASHINGTON, DC—Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) released the following statement regarding the Senate’s confirmation today of Sylvia Mathews Burwell as the new Secretary of Health and Human Services. The Senate voted 78-17 to confirm Burwell, who most recently served as the Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
“I applaud the Senate for its strong bipartisan vote today to confirm Sylvia as the next Health and Human Services Secretary. I have every confidence that she is the right choice to lead HHS as it continues to make sure the Affordable Care Act works for all Americans. Sylvia's strong management experience helped her thrive at OMB in a challenging year, and I know she will serve families and communities just as well in this new role. I look forward to working with Sylvia to ensure that health care is more affordable and accessible for the people of Connecticut and across our country.”
