Washington, D.C. - Congressman Jim Himes (CT-04) released the following statement following House passage of H.J. Res. 77 - Opposing the decision to end certain United States efforts to prevent Turkish military operations against Syrian Kurdish forces in Northeast Syria.
"Donald Trump’s disastrous abandonment of our Kurdish allies is a betrayal of the most fundamental principles of American foreign policy. If we leave our friends to be slaughtered, sacrificing what’s right for what’s popular with the political base, we will surely find ourselves very alone in the world. I’m proud to support today’s resolution calling on Turkey to immediately cease its aggression in Syria and implores the President to stand with the Kurds who stood with us against ISIS."
