WASHINGTON, DC—Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) released the following statement regarding the new employment data released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In March the unemployment rate dropped to 8.8%, a two-year low, and total job growth was 216,000. Businesses created 230,000 new jobs in March, marking the 13th straight month of private-sector job growth.

“Today’s new jobs numbers are encouraging, but we still have a long way to go. I’m fighting everyday to ensure we keep this recovery moving forward so that businesses can continue to invest in their companies, innovate, and create jobs. While we’re certainly not in the clear yet, 13 straight months of private-sector job growth means we’re headed in the right direction.”
