Washington, DC — Congressman Jim Himes (CT-04) will welcome board certified obstetrician-gynecologist, Yale University adjunct professor in obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive sciences, and women’s health advocate Dr. Vrunda B. Desai as his guest to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union Address on Thursday.
“When the Supreme Court repealed Roe v. Wade two years ago, it threatened the availability of health care services around the country,” said Congressman Himes. “Now states are moving to pass legislation that could harm women’s access to critical medical treatment, ranging from contraception to in vitro fertilization (IVF). The recent effort to limit IVF in Alabama is just one example of how restrictions on reproductive health may have repercussions for all families and their ability to bring healthy children into this world. I am thankful to the highly qualified medical experts like Dr. Desai who use their skills to help their patients thrive and to ensure that the rights afforded to all in Connecticut remain available nationwide. With the support of President Biden’s Administration, I have faith that we will persevere in our efforts to restore protections for women and families in every state.”
Dr. Desai said, “As a physician, I know the importance of ensuring access to health care for women and families. I very much appreciate the opportunity to discuss reproductive health with Congressman Himes and look forward to working together to ensure the residents of Connecticut and everyone across this country has access to the health care services they deserve.”
