DANBURY— Today, Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) hosted a job fair at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury with Congressman Chris Murphy (CT-5) to help job seekers connect with employment opportunities. Over 60 companies participated in the job fair seeking to fill hundreds of part- and full- time positions. From Boehringer Ingelheim to Pitney Bowes, the event offered a wide range of open positions for the over 500 job seekers who attended.
“I am very encouraged by the success of today’s job fair, and it was wonderful to see that the event catered to job seekers of all ages and professions,” said Himes. “During these difficult times, it is critical that Connecticut’s unemployed are aware of the jobs that are available, and I look forward to continuing my work with Congressman Murphy to get Connecticut working again.”
“Today was a good day for job seekers,” said Murphy. “While there is still much more to be done to lower our unemployment rate, this event made it clear to people looking for work that there are jobs available and companies in Connecticut that are eager to hire.”
“Looking for your first real job can be an overwhelming and lonely process,” said Alexandra Melillo, a recent Sacred Heart University graduate from Southbury. “Today’s event gave me the opportunity to speak to many different employers in a range of fields. Having been looking for work for months now, it’s good to know that Congressman Murphy and Congressman Himes are looking out for people who need some help.”
