WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) issued the following statement today regarding a U.S. Veterans Affairs Department audit indicating that the widespread treatment delays and other misconduct affecting VA medical facilities nationwide are not prevalent in Connecticut.
“I am pleased that Connecticut's veterans have largely been spared the unconscionable delays and misconduct plaguing VA facilities across our nation. I commend the West Haven VA for its efforts to provide veterans the timely care they deserve, ensuring that 98 percent of its appointments were scheduled in no more than 30 days. The national results of this audit are deeply troubling and underscore why I have pushed for changing the leadership at the Veterans Affairs Department. I will continue pushing for more detailed data from the VA and I will keep working to ensure that the VA system works for veterans in Connecticut and across our country."
