Funding: $5,000,000,000

Description: Competitive grants to support local initiatives to prevent death and serious injury on roads and streets, commonly referred to as Vision Zero or Toward Zero Deaths initiatives.

Having a Comprehensive Action Plan (Vision Zero plan) is a prerequisite for building projects. For this reason, applicants in the early stages of developing or updating an Action Plan should apply for an Action Plan Grant.

An Action Plan Grant consists of a safety analysis, engagement and collaboration, policy and process changes, and other components of a plan to reach the goal of zero roadway fatalities and serious injuries. Implementation Grants are available to implement strategies and fund activities and projects that are consistent with an existing Action Plan.

Eligible Recipients: A metropolitan planning organization, counties, cities, towns, and transit agencies or other special districts that are subdivisions of a State, a Federally recognized Tribal government, and a multijurisdictional group of any of the aforementioned entities. States are ineligible.

Eligible Uses: Development of a comprehensive safety action plan, conducting planning, design, and development activities for projects and strategies identified in a comprehensive safety action plan, and carrying out such projects and strategies.

Deadline: 5:00 p.m. EDT on September 15, 2022.
