In response to Congressional Republicans failing to extend the Affordable Care Act (ACA) premium tax credits that millions of Americans rely upon, Governor Lamont announced in December 2025 that Connecticut would provide financial assistance to eligible residents enrolled in Access Health CT insurance plans. The state subsidy program will replace some or all of the federal tax credits which lapsed on January 1, 2026, depending on enrollee eligibility.
Efforts to extend the ACA premium tax credits at the federal level are ongoing, and, recently, the House of Representatives passed a bill which would extend the credits for three years if it became law. Nonetheless, Governor Lamont’s Administration is proceeding with the state subsidy program to ensure Connecticut residents are not subjected to exorbitant premium increases should the federal government fail to extend the ACA premium tax credits. Read on for answers to frequently asked questions and information on how to qualify for assistance.
