Washington, DC—Today, Congressman Jim Himes (CT-04) released the following statement regarding his vote for a three-year extension of the Affordable Care Act enhanced tax credits. House Democrats forced the vote by obtaining 218 Member signatures for their discharge petition, led by Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.
“Despite overwhelming opposition from Republican leadership, House Democrats passed a bill to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits that would prevent skyrocketing health care costs for millions of Americans. Barely a day goes by that I don’t hear from constituents worried about health care, and it is unfathomable to me that any of my colleagues would choose to ignore these stories. But my colleagues across the aisle have once again proven themselves more interested in securing tax cuts for billionaires and groveling to Donald Trump than in helping their constituents struggling with the affordability crisis.
“I hope that a few Republican Senators will show the necessary courage to help Democrats pull this legislation over the finish line. Until then, I will continue working with state and local leaders to ensure that no one in Connecticut is priced out of critical medical care.”
