WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Jim Himes (CT-04) released the following statement on Equal Pay Day:
“Valuing women means valuing equal pay. Throughout our country and in all of our lives, women often take on more work than men, both inside and outside the home. The disconnect between this work and the 79 cents on the dollar that women are being paid compared to men, shows that we need to reevaluate, rebalance, and reform the way that the system regards women’s work. That’s why I became a sponsor of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act in 2009 only two days after I was first sworn in to Congress. I will continue to fight for equal pay for women, for my daughters, for all our daughters, until the equal contributions women are making to support our families and our economy are compensated equally as well.”
