WASHINGTON, DC— Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) will hold a roundtable with media on Tuesday, September 24 at the Business Council of Fairfield County to discuss the urgent fiscal matters facing Congress and the economic impact of either a government shutdown or a default on the nation’s debt. Himes and representatives from the Business council will discuss both the logistical and economic impacts of inaction.

If Congress does not enact a spending resolution by September 30, the government will lack authority to operate all but emergency services. Even more dangerous, the nation will reach its debt limit in mid-October. The House Majority has pledged to tie efforts to both prevent a government shutdown and raise the nation’s debt limit to legislation that defunds—or eliminates—Obamacare, a plan the President has promised to veto.
