This week, the House is expected to consider three bills ranging from STEM education to women’s issues.
Legislation under consideration this week includes:
H.R. 667: redesignates the Dryden Flight Center as the Neil A. Armstrong Flight Research Center and the Western Aeronautical Test Range as the Hugh L. Dryden Aeronautical Test Range.
Academic Competition Resolution of 2013 (H.R. ___): establishes an academic competition in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to be held each year among students in each congressional district. Rules for the competition will be created by the House Committee on Administration, but each Member make seek guidance from STEM experts to establish criteria for the selection of judges and the judging of entries.
House Amendment to the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013 (S. 47): amends the bipartisan, Senate-passed Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) reauthorization by eliminating protections for LGBT victims and Native American victims assaulted on tribal lands. It also eliminates provisions relating to dating violence on college campuses and fails to reauthorize federal programs designed to combat human trafficking. Congressman Himes cosponsored a reauthorization bill with 200 of his colleagues that includes the protections listed above.
