WASHINGTON, DC—Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) congratulated Connecticut as the fifth most energy efficient state in America, according to the State Energy Efficiency Scorecard released by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) today. Connecticut is joined by Massachusetts, California, New York, and Oregon at the top of the list.
“I am extremely pleased that Connecticut is being recognized for the strides it has taken over the past few years towards energy efficiency,” said Himes. “The cheapest and most environmentally friendly energy is the energy we don’t use, and I look forward to working with Governor Malloy and other state and local leaders as we continue making Connecticut more energy efficient.”
In its report, ACEEE cited a law passed in Connecticut in 2007, An Act Concerning Electricity and Energy Efficiency, which established new requirements for energy efficiency and new regulatory mechanisms, such as electric and natural gas decoupling. It also noted a law passed this year to help families and businesses reduce their energy consumption by requiring gas and electric distribution companies to create triennial energy conservation plans.
