WASHINGTON, DC—Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) released the following statement in reaction to news that, if the government shutdown continues until Monday, over one thousand Sikorsky workers will be furloughed.
“I continue to grow more frustrated and saddened with the irresponsible brinksmanship of an uncompromising Tea Party minority in Congress as more and more of the human costs of this unnecessary shutdown come to light. Should the government remain closed on Monday, fifteen hundred Sikorsky workers will be forced to leave good-paying jobs vacant, jobs being held hostage to Tea Party demands. These families will stretch to make ends meet and worry when work will restart. I call upon my colleagues to end the uncertainty these families—and all we Americans—face and reopen the government immediately.”
