Washington, DC – Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) issued the follow statement today in response to a bipartisan Senate proposal to overhaul the nation’s immigration laws, including a fair path to citizenship for immigrants already in the United States, an employment verification system, and green cards for immigrants who achieve advanced degrees in math and science.
“I applaud the eight senators from both sides of the aisle who came to the table and reached an agreement on reforming our broken immigration system. While there is still work left to be done, I am encouraged by this progress and see today’s announcement as a sign that Republicans and Democrats can and will work together to get the job done – even on one of the toughest and most emotional of issues. I look forward to hearing from the President tomorrow and moving forward together toward making our immigration system fairer and more consistent with our values as a nation.”
