Yesterday, I got the chance to tour Ridgefield’s historic Keeler Tavern with high school senior Taylor Fischer, the first Ridgefield resident to serve as President of the Connecticut Society of the Children of the American Revolution. She showed me the cannonball still wedged into the side of the tavern, and gave me a pewter pin of a cannon to remind me of the historic events preserved and remembered in Ridgefield. We also got the chance to talk about C.A.R. projects, including a Summer Camp at the Keeler Tavern to teach kids about the American Revolution, and I answered some of her questions about what it’s like to serve as a member of Congress. After a glass of lemonade and some cookies, I could not be prouder to highlight a small part of the history of the beginning of the American Republic and to represent an aspiring young leader like Taylor.
