Eight Fairfield County environmental projects will receive approximately $21,000 for the conservation of Long Island Sound. These projects include “Creature Encounters” at the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk, “Trout in the Classroom” at the Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport, and the placement of signs at the Norwalk Harbor.

The awards come from the Long Island Sound Futures Fund, which is a joint organization by the Environmental Protection Agency, National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. Since LISFF’s creation in 2005, Connecticut has received $17.5 million in grants and grantee matches for conservation in the state.

As a long time clam fisherman, biker, rower, and overall outdoor enthusiast, I understand first-hand the need to preserve and protect the Long Island Sound. I am proud to announce these grants to local governments and organizations so that they might continue doing the important work of protecting our environment.
