WASHINGTON, DC—Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi has reappointed Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) to serve on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. The committee oversees the budget and activities of the 17 intelligence agencies of the United States.

“Congressman Himes’ service on the Intelligence Committee has been defined by thoughtfulness and professionalism,” Pelosi said. “The strength of his experience will continue to be a valued resource in the new Congress.”

“I am deeply honored to have the opportunity to continue serving on the Intelligence Committee,” Himes said. “The Committee has one of the hardest and most important responsibilities in Congress – protecting our people and overseeing America’s intelligence operations. We must remain vigilant against threats to America, but in doing so we must also ensure our nation's intelligence programs strike the right balance between protecting our security and the privacy and civil liberties of our citizens. I am eager to continue working with members of both parties on the Committee, which has long been a bastion of bipartisanship, to achieve that balance and build a safer and more secure nation.”

Earlier today, Himes appeared on CNN’s “New Day” to discuss the latest developments following the terrorist attacks in Paris. Click here to watch the interview.
