WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) released the following statement after the Senate passed legislation to restore expired long-term unemployment benefits for five months, which would help over 48,000 people in Connecticut who are out of work. Himes is joining his colleagues in sending a letter to Speaker Boehner demanding a vote on the Senate bill.
“I am pleased that the Senate came together to pass in a bipartisan fashion important assistance that will help those not yet benefitting from the recovery keep their heads above water. With millions of Americans still out of work and teetering on the brink of financial ruin, it is well past time for the House Majority to stop dragging their heels. I urge House Leadership to bring the Senate’s bipartisan bill up for a vote as soon as possible.”
