Bridgeport, CT—Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) will hold three events to help connect homeowners, renters, business owners, and nonprofits with the federal assistance available to mitigate damages suffered as a result of Tropical Storm Irene. He will hold public information meetings in Bridgeport and Stamford and canvass small businesses in Westport.

Westport Business Canvass

Himes will visit businesses in Westport to check in on those who were hard-hit by Tropical Storm Irene and to help publicize the federal assistance that is available to help them recover from the storm. Representatives from the Small Business Administration will join him to answer any questions and ensure business owners have all the necessary information to apply for federal disaster assistance to help repair and, in some cases, rebuild their businesses.

WHEN: Friday, September 30 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETINGS

Constituents who suffered uninsured damage to their home, property, or business or experienced other significant financial loss as a result of Tropical Storm Irene may be eligible for disaster recovery funding from the federal government. However, many residents are not aware of the available assistance or application process. Himes will hold public information meetings with the Small Business Administration and the Federal Emergency Management Agency this week to help affected residents learn about the resources available to them and to help them apply for assistance.
