Washington, DC – Moments ago, Congressman Jim Himes (CT-04) released the following statement on the confirmation in the Senate of Avril Haines as the Director of National Intelligence:
“I have spent much of my time on the Intelligence Committee synthesizing complex and vital information given to us by intelligence experts into effective oversight and policy. The Committee can only be effective in these efforts, however, if the information we receive is fact-based and free from any political bias or manipulation. Under the previous administration, this was not always the case.
“That is why I am pleased that Avril Haines will serve as our country’s next Director of National Intelligence. She is a consummate patriot and professional who places duty to nation as her highest priority. ‘To safeguard the integrity of our intelligence community, the DNI must insist that, when it comes to intelligence, there is simply no place for politics — ever,’ she wrote in her Statement to the Senate Intelligence Committee.
“The safety of our nation and the integrity of our intelligence community will be well served by Avril Haines’s confirmation, and I look forward to working with her in this role.”
