WASHINGTON, DC – Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi honored local veteran Scott MacDonald at a press conference and reception this week in Washington. Mr. MacDonald is a participant in the Wounded Warriors Program that matches wounded veterans with professional opportunities in the United States House of Representatives. He currently serves as Congressman Jim Himes’ Veterans and Homeland Security Outreach Coordinator.
“I am honored to have someone with Scott’s integrity and experience serving the veterans of the 4th District,” said Congressman Himes. “Many veterans are aging and even more are returning home from duty, and having someone as capable and dedicated as Scott to help with their transition and beyond is critical to ensuring they have access to the benefits they earned defending us.”
Mr. MacDonald served in the Navy as a Naval Operations Satellite Communications Specialist with a top secret clearance. After becoming paralyzed from the chest down, he earned his bachelor’s degree and began working for Congressman Chris Shays. When Congressman Himes was elected this fall, he asked Mr. MacDonald to continue his work with local veterans, and he agreed.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to work with Congressman Himes to address the needs of people in my community, especially veterans and those who are disabled,” Mr. MacDonald said. “I love taking care of people.”
Mr. MacDonald is currently pursuing a master’s degree in foreign policy. In his free time he competes in triathlons and volunteers with the Paralyzed Vets Administration and Southwest Disability Collaborative.
