Washington, DC— Today, Congressman Jim Himes (CT-04) led a bipartisan letter to the Biden administration along with Representatives Jason Crow (CO-06), Mike Quigley (IL-05), Bill Johnson (OH-6), Brad Wenstrup (OH-02), Jeff Fortenberry (NE-01), and 70 other members calling attention to the worsening refugee crisis in Ukraine.

In the one week since Vladimir Putin ordered the Russian army to invade Ukraine on February 24th, more than a million Ukrainians have fled for their lives to neighboring countries. And this is likely just the beginning of the crisis.

“Our NATO Allies and Partners who share a border with Ukraine are likely to experience an influx of several million refugees, and millions more will be internally displaced,” the letter reads in part.  “The United States, together with the international community and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), must ensure that all Ukrainians fleeing their homes because of President Putin’s aggressive actions are provided with adequate humanitarian support.”

In addition to calling for international action, the letter also asks that the administration update Congress on its plans and efforts to assist with the refugee crisis.
