BRIDGEPORT, CT—Congressman Jim  Himes (CT-4) announced Nick Weir of Westport as the first place winner of this year’s Congressional Art Competition. Nick attends Staples High School and won with a self portrait titled “Nick, Weird.” His painting will hang in a corridor of the United States Capitol along with the winning pieces from across the country.

“Congratulations to Nick and the other winners,” said Congressman Himes. “Arts are a critical part of making our communities vibrant, exciting places to live, and it’s great to see so many young people engaged in creative pursuits.”

The competition drew over 50 entries from across the district. The second and third place winners were Leila Fletcher of Fairfield Warde High School and Vivian Dai of Stamford High School. Marisa Barone, Elizabeth Hafey, Piper Tierney Jones, Christina Strezechoki, and Sarah Szabo all received honorable mention recognition. The competition was judged by an independent panel of artists.

The Congressman extends his thanks to judges Terri Smith, Robbin Zella, Paul Master-Karnick, Ph.D., Leslie Nolan, and Ryan Odinak.
