Bridgeport, CT – Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) and Mayor Bill Finch today presented the Bridgeport Police Department with a framed copy of a resolution recognizing their role in apprehending the suspect in the Times Square bombing attempt this spring. Himes sponsored House Resolution 1320, which was passed by the United States House of Representatives on May 5, 2010.
“Your swift action and coordinated efforts prevented a terrorism attempt from escalating into an even more dangerous incident,” said Himes. “This was a jarring reminder that, given our proximity to New York City, we can find ourselves on a target list at a moment’s notice. Because of your vigilance and professionalism, we will be as safe as possible should danger strike.”
The resolution specifically recognizes the Bridgeport Police Department, Detective Bureau, Patrol Division, and other law enforcement agencies in Connecticut and highlights the coordination among all organizations as key to the suspect’s swift capture.
“This is but one example of the excellent police work done by our men and women in blue every day. We’re extremely proud of the work our officers have done and continue to do and the relationship they have with state and federal agencies, which made it that much easier for them to help bring the Times Square bomber to justice,” said Finch. “I want to thank Congressman Himes for recognizing these officers in this resolution and brining well deserved acknowledgments to our police department.”
