Washington, DC– Congressman Jim Himes (CT-04) today released the following statement:

"The President knows that he has no authority to fire a sitting Federal Reserve governor, but he also knows that there will be no repercussions so long as Congress is willing to happily fall in line. My Republican colleagues must stand up to support Lisa Cook and defend the independence of the Federal Reserve. To do otherwise undermines confidence in American markets and sends a clear signal that Donald Trump can ignore legal protections to remove anyone who doesn’t blindly adhere to his agenda— an outcome that will inevitably prove detrimental to the economy and further erode our democratic institutions."
