Washington, DC – Today Congressman Jim Himes (CT-04) voted to pass the bipartisan Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act of 2024. The legislation would expand the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit, benefiting 16 million children and lifting an estimated 400,000 children above the poverty line within the next year. The bill also restores a tax deduction for businesses that invest in research and development.

“Today I voted for a comprehensive tax bill that will put food on the table for thousands of families, accelerate the construction of affordable housing, and drive innovation and job creation for businesses focused on cutting edge innovation,” said Congressman Himes. “This legislation will support working families nationwide. Most notably, the Child Tax Credit will make a meaningful difference in the lives of children across the country, helping parents afford childcare, groceries, and other necessities. There is a long way to go until these resources are available to all, but today I am proud to help pass a bill that will benefit nearly 120,000 children in Connecticut, including 23,000 in the Fourth District.”
