Washington, DC — Today, Congressman Jim Himes (CT-04) issued the following statement opposing legislation to censure Representatives Rashida Tlaib and Marjorie Taylor Greene:
“Today, freedom of expression everywhere is under threat. Illiberal hall monitors on the Left and the Right are suppressing books, artists, and ‘objectionable’ opinions and speakers. Freedom of expression, no matter how unpopular, must not be censored or officially sanctioned. The remedy for bad speech is more speech.
“Sadly, censure resolutions are coming before the House today which would censure two members of the House, Rep. Rashida Tlaib and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene for things which they have said. That is wrong. It contributes to the further erosion of our democratic system. I will oppose both.”
