WASHINGTON, DC – On Saturday, December 1, Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) will hold an information session where representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Small Business Administration (SBA) will outline the resources they offer to those affected by Superstorm Sandy, including individual assistance for home owners and physical disaster loans and economic injury loans for businesses affected by the hurricane. The meeting will include an overview of assistance available for those who wish to elevate their homes and businesses to avoid future flood damage.
After the information session, there will be a break-out session where home and business owners will have an opportunity to meet one-on-one with representatives from FEMA, the SBA, the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), and other state and federal agencies to discuss their individual cases. Officials from Bridgeport, Darien, Fairfield, Norwalk, Greenwich and Westport will also be on hand to answer municipality-specific questions about permitting and other requirements.
Homes and businesses located in flood-prone areas which were affected by Hurricane Sandy may be eligible for federal assistance for elevation. Business owners can apply for low-interest loans with the SBA. Home owners can also apply for low-interest loans and grants for home elevation or repairs and additionally may be eligible for FEMA displacement costs. Those who already have flood insurance through FEMA are still eligible for these programs. There will be on-site registration for FEMA and SBA assistance at the session.
Individuals who would like to attend are encouraged to RSVP by contacting Amy Lappos in the Congressman’s Bridgeport office at (866) 453-0028 or amy.lappos@mail.house.gov.
